This historic hotel, which opened in 1928 and was renovated in 1993, is a half-block from Union Square and right on the cable car line.
The hotel offers views from most of its 417 guestrooms, with their distinctive green-striped walls and star-print carpets.

Standard Room - These guestrooms offer one king bed or one queen bed and can accommodate a maximum of two guests.

Amenity highlights: When the Drake opened in 1928, it was considered the model of modernity—each room had a tap just for ice water, a panel inside guestroom doors allowed staff to deliver items without disturbing the occupants, and mail chutes collected postcards on every floor. The chutes are still fully operational, but are now joined by modern additions—a business center, two acclaimed restaurants, and a rooftop nightclub with live music.
Insider tip: With its location just off Union Square, the Drake is a cultural mecca: Famous authors give readings at the bookstore across the street, the upscale department store on the corner hosts designer fashion shows, and the hotel’s wall of fame attests to the many celebrities who pay visits to the rooftop Starlight Room.
